The Campus Consciousness Tour Brings Ben & Jerry’s and Janelle Monáe to Universities Across the Country

Fair Trade Universities has joined forces with the Campus Consciousness Tour, Ben and Jerry’s, and Janelle Monáe to spread the word about Fair Trade.  From October 1 through October 22, Fair Trade Universities and the Campus Consciousness Tour will be stopping at 12 universities to educate students about Fair Trade and how they can make their campus a Fair Trade campus.

During the day, the Fair Trade Universities booth will be hosting activities while Ben and Jerry’s scoops free samples of their Fair Trade ice cream.  Each night of the tour, R&B/Soul musician, Janelle Monáe and the band Fun., will be playing sets on campus.  Janelle Monáe is a countess of funk, a wizard of soul and she supports Fair Trade. It doesn’t get much better than that! Check out the tour dates below!

The Campus Consciousness Tour is organized each year by Reverb, a non-profit that combines music and environmentalism by setting up tours that encourage musicians and their fans to take action toward a more sustainable future.  At each Campus Consciousness Tour, Reverb brings together non-profit partners to educate students on sustainable causes.  This year, Fair Trade Universities is joined by partners Oxfam and the Non-GMO Project.

Courtney Lang, National Organizer | Fair Trade Campaigns

Courtney Lang brings over 5 years of community organizing to Fair Trade Towns USA, building both the Local Food and Fair Trade networks in Vermont. As Local Food Coordinator with City Market/Onion River Cooperative, Courtney worked with local producers, institutions and consumers to grow the local food system and organize a strategic model for community engagement through farm tours, workshops, and local food challenges. Like many in the Fair Trade industry, Courtney was inspired to take action in Fair Trade when she witnessed child-labor first hand in Costa Rica. As a founding member of Fair Trade Burlington, she has worked with economic development organizations, businesses, and consumers to build awareness of Fair Trade among Vermonters. She also worked with a Fair Trade USA licensee, Vermont Coffee Company, as Friend Ambassador where she united the story of Fair Trade to every purchase of coffee.
