Let the National Celebration for Fair Trade Bananas Begin

Fair Trade Towns USA was inspired to build demand for Fair Trade bananas after visiting a Fair Trade cooperative in the Dominican Republic in March of 2012.

Did you now that bananas are the world’s most popular fruit?

The Go Bananas for Fair Trade web page and toolkit will help you identify where Fair Trade bananas are available in your community and, if not, how to build the strategic relationships and consumer demand needed for local supermarkets to commit to Fair Trade bananas.  Join the Go Bananas for Fair Trade initiative this October as the national celebration for Fair Trade bananas begins!

Check out our post below as we unpeel the exciting opportunities and resources!.

Take the Go Bananas Challenge!

We need you to build consumer demand for Fair Trade bananas in your community! Take the Go Bananas Challenge from October 1 to October 14 by hosting Fair Trade banana themed events, and enter to win a trip to the Fair Trade Campaigns Conference in Chicago or a free year’s supply of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.  All across the country, producers and Fair Trade supporters will be taking part! Check out the details of how to participate!

Go Bananas Toolkit & Resources

The Go Bananas for Fair Trade Toolkit has everything you need to know about organizing successful banana themed events and effectively inspiring your community about Fair Trade bananas!  Please check out the “Resources” section on our Go Bananas for Fair Trade web page for more educational materials & links.

Where are Fair Trade Bananas Available?

Use our “Where to Buy” page to find out if Fair Trade bananas are available in your community and, if not, how you can successfully bring Fair Trade bananas to your supermarket, school, or workplace.

Courtney Lang, National Organizer | Fair Trade Campaigns

Courtney Lang brings over 5 years of community organizing to Fair Trade Towns USA, building both the Local Food and Fair Trade networks in Vermont. As Local Food Coordinator with City Market/Onion River Cooperative, Courtney worked with local producers, institutions and consumers to grow the local food system and organize a strategic model for community engagement through farm tours, workshops, and local food challenges. Like many in the Fair Trade industry, Courtney was inspired to take action in Fair Trade when she witnessed child-labor first hand in Costa Rica. As a founding member of Fair Trade Burlington, she has worked with economic development organizations, businesses, and consumers to build awareness of Fair Trade among Vermonters. She also worked with a Fair Trade USA licensee, Vermont Coffee Company, as Friend Ambassador where she united the story of Fair Trade to every purchase of coffee.
