Let’s Get to Work!

This weekend we have heard from Fair Trade authors, activists, farmers and artisans. In recognition of the ability we all have to create change, we ask you to take a major step forward with your campaign.  We have brainstormed 3 routes:

1.)  Social Media

Get 100 people to like your page!  Here are a few ideas to get you started:  Host a giveaway on your page incentivizing people to share your page with their friends to win; make a social media card with all your handles to give out at your next event; search and like local and national companies and organizations that you would like to “like” your page, with the hope of getting some of them to return the favor; SHARE PHOTOS!!!

2.)  Availability

  • Circulate your “where to buy” list to: Your email list, the local farmers market or a Buy Local group
  • Document a meeting with a store or cafe manager about stocking new Fair Trade items
  • Submit an outline for an event highlighting the available Fair Trade products and retail locations to your community

3.)  Influencers

Document 2 meetings with any of the following (or others):

  1. Chamber of Commerce                      2. City Officials                                      3. Buy Local Group
  2. Rotary                                                    5. Social Justice Groups                      6. Schools
  3. Local Faith Groups

Courtney Lang, National Organizer | Fair Trade Campaigns

Courtney Lang brings over 5 years of community organizing to Fair Trade Towns USA, building both the Local Food and Fair Trade networks in Vermont. As Local Food Coordinator with City Market/Onion River Cooperative, Courtney worked with local producers, institutions and consumers to grow the local food system and organize a strategic model for community engagement through farm tours, workshops, and local food challenges. Like many in the Fair Trade industry, Courtney was inspired to take action in Fair Trade when she witnessed child-labor first hand in Costa Rica. As a founding member of Fair Trade Burlington, she has worked with economic development organizations, businesses, and consumers to build awareness of Fair Trade among Vermonters. She also worked with a Fair Trade USA licensee, Vermont Coffee Company, as Friend Ambassador where she united the story of Fair Trade to every purchase of coffee.
