Media, Pennsylvania
Media, PA become the first Fair Trade Town in the Americas in 2006 after a 6 month intensive campaign. There was no Fair Trade Campaigns then so we adopted the same guidelines used by Garstang England and self-declared. It spurred the first national Fair Trade Towns conference the following year and ultimately led to the formation of Fair Trade Campaigns. Although the Borough passed a resolution of support to complete the requirements, it took a while before they fully embraced us. Now they supply some funding and promote our status as the first Fair Trade Town in the Americas.
