LVCoB Receives Fair Trade Congregation Status
The La Verne Church of the Brethren has officially received a Fair Trade Congregation status and will be recognized in a “moment” before worship on Sunday, June 5, 2016. Please join the congregation as we celebrate this status and congratulate the La Verne COB Youth and Pastor Janet Ober Lambert for their work which has made this possible. The La Verne COB Youth have been selling Fair Trade Certified coffee, tea, and chocolate for many years and have inspired the congregation to include fairly traded products in its food service.
Fair Trade products are a way in which farmers and producers are included in the decision-making process in order that they have an equitable say in the selling and trade of their products. This decision process, in turn, yields higher wages and living conditions for the farmers and producers of fairly traded products. Not only will buying Fair Trade products support these workers, but when you buy from the La Verne COB Youth, the proceeds go to non-profit organizations whose work they wish to support. In the past, recipients have included Free the Slaves, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, and New Community Project.
If you have a question or would like to learn more about supporting Fair Trade products, please do not hesitate to speak to our youth or visit http://lavernecob.org/fair-trade/.
