How have you found success with social media?
Some campaigns excel with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even YouTube. What are some of the most successful techniques you’ve used in your campaigning in the digital sphere? What are some struggles you’ve had with social media? Have you found one social media outlet draws more interests and attention than other outlets?

We are not particularly social-media savvy. As far as I know, we only
advertise our Fair Trade bazaars on Facebook, with only moderate success.
We create Event pages and put it on our congregation’s web site and
Facebook page. It seems more and more people are using Facebook all the
time, however, so maybe this year will be different.
The campaign at University of San Diego utilizes Facebook and Instagram to connect with other campaigns and our student body. We have used instagram to host give-aways, promote our events, promote other related campus events, and advertise meetings and Fair Trade products on campus. Our facebook is used more to share news articles, share posts from other campaigns, and connect with the other campaigns in Southern CA and beyond. We definitely get more likes on Instagram than other social media outlets.

Our social media wasn’t doing very good as far as getting people to follow us, like our pages or to check in to see what we are up to. We started using this as a raffle tool. If we are holding an event we would have people follow us on Instagram or like our facebook in order to enter a raffle to win a fair trade product. What we have found is that people are motivated to enter a raffle so they will like or follow our page, but then the activity ends there. I have found that it is important to have someone who is passionate about social media and fair trade who are willing to be the manager of these sites. Instagram seems to be the best social media outlet that has worked for us.
