The bath & body brand, Hand in Hand Soap was founded by couple, Bill Glaab & Courtney Apple.  During research, the couple found that each year more than 5 million people, mainly children, die in impoverished areas of the world due to respiratory infections and diarrhoeal diseases. These diseases kill more people in a year than HIV and malaria combined.  The majority of these illnesses are caused by the lack of proper hygiene and clean water. Studies have shown that hand washing with soap can reduce nearly half of these infections that ultimately lead to death.

The simple idea that hand washing can save a life was the basis for Hand in Hand Soap’s Buy a Bar, Give a Bar program.  For every bar of soap purchased, Hand in Hand donates a bar of soap to help save children from water-related illness in the developing world. As of November, 2012, Hand in Hand donated over 65,000 bars of soap to children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Aside from their Buy a Bar, Give a Bar program, Bill & Courtney knew, at the start of their venture together, that they wanted to create a brand that was good from the inside and out.  They were both so tired of buying a luxury product that was organic, but not Fair Trade.  They were exhausted from finding products that were all natural, but said nothing about animal testing, or where the soap was made.

With this idea in mind, Bill & Courtney knew they were on to something big.  They would be completely transparent and not only would they offer a luxury bath & body brand that gave back, but they would make sure that their product was eco-friendly and sourced ethically.  Each bar of Hand in Hand Soap is 100% eco-friendly, biodegradable, and contains ingredients ethically harvested from sustainable resources.  The founders created what they consider to be the most environmentally friendly and ethically conscious soaps on the market today.

Hand in Hand Soap is certified by the Natural Product Association and their organic shea butter & cocoa butter used in each bar is certified by Fair Trade USA.  So not only do consumers get to lather up with these luxurious butters, but they can feel confident knowing that their bar of soap was sourced ethically.

Considering Hand in Hand’s many values, the founders, Bill & Courtney never forget about the importance that their Fair Trade certification really has.  Fair Trade products and their consumers help improve communities day-to-day lives and in truth, help millions of people all over the world to stay on their land, feed their families, and send their children to school.
